EPPING, N.H.- On Saturday, May 12, a new
chapter in the history of one of the longest running
short tracks in New England begins with a special event
featuring the Pro All Star Series Tour running a 150-lap
event. The Star Speedway Allen's Coffee Brandy Outlaw
Late Models will also run their season opener at the
Epping, New Hampshire oval, with an impressive field of
cars expected.
The PASS Tour event is always a crowd
pleaser, and the 2011 event was no exception, with
numerous lead changes in the closing laps before Derek
Ramstrom of Worcester, Mass., pulled off the unlikely
victory from deep in the field, taking the race lead
with just two laps remaining.
This year's event promises to be just as
exciting, with expected entries coming from 2011 PASS
Champion Johnny Clark, Ben Rowe, Travis Benjamin and
Ramstrom. With this event being only the second race of
the young season, these drivers will be looking to the
pivotal points event st Star as a steppingstone to a
PASS Tour Championship.
The Allen's Coffee Brandy Outlaw Late
Models have a mix of returning drivers from last season,
newcomers, and returning drivers from seasons past at
Star. The early entry list for the 2012 season includes
the return of NASCAR Short Track National Champion
"Diamond" Rob Wilcox. Fast 50 Series Champion Joe
Squeglia Jr., is also planning to race an Outlaw at Star
this season.
Former Track Champion Mark Hebbelinck
returns, along with Ron Bolduc, back with former crew
chief John Rogers as part of the R&R Wholesalers team,
with Joe Ventrillo and owner Jimmy Renfrew. Renfrew will
race in selected shows. Many time Pro Stock winner Bobby
Cabral returns to the Outlaw ranks as well, competing
against 2011 Star Champion Mitch Wendell and Rob McRae.
The 2011 title chase with the Outlaw
class came right down to the final lap of the final race
between Wendell and McRae. Also returning are Chuck and
Joe Dehney, Steve Wilmot, Jimmy and Billy Ryder to name
a few. This season opener will set the tone for a new
chase that is expected to be even more competitive than
last season, with car counts likely to be close to 24 on
most nights.
Also on the Saturday evening schedule
are the PASS Modifieds, which are experiencing an
increase in car counts over last season. The Allen's
Coffee Brandy Outlaws, Woody's Auto Strickly Stocks and
Kimball Auto Body Roadrunners will race for double
points on this season opening night, likely filling the
pit area beyond capacity.
Racing action begins at 4:30 PM on
Saturday, May 12 with qualifying events for all
divisions, followed by feature races and the PASS 150.
