PASS TOUR AND TOUR-TYPE MODIFIEDS AT STAR ON SATURDAY |
EPPING, NH- With the disappointment of a rained out
season opener in the rear view mirror, the Star Speedway
roars to life for the first time this Saturday, May 14
with a doubleheader evening of racing action that is
sure to bring the fast quarter-mile back to life in
style.
The Pro All Stars Series (PASS) takes center stage with
a 150-lap event, marking a return to Star for the first
time since 2008. Fresh off a very successful first event
of 2011 at the Beech Ridge Motor Speedway in Maine, all
of the best PASS Tour Stars will be on hand to compete.
Additionally, local drivers Joey Polewarczyk Jr., of
Hudson, N.H., and Louie Mechalides from Tyngsboro,
Mass., will be among the non-regulars of PASS in
competition that are sure to add to the competition
level, and ensure a full field of the Super Late Models.
Mechalides, the 2008 Star Modified Track Champion, knows
his way around the Star oval as well as any driver on
the roster.
"I feel real good about this event at Star," stated PASS
President Tom Mayberry on Sunday. "We had a good crowd
and a great field of cars at Beech Ridge. I was very
happy with our season opener, and Star has had some of
our most competitive events."
Derek Ramstrom won the last PASS event held at Star in
2008 at the age of 16, proving that a first-time winner
could happen once again when the field takes the green
for 150 green flag laps of intense racing competition.
Ramstrom should be confident after leading the 2011
season opening event at Beech Ridge before he was
sidelined by mechanical problems.
There has been a lot of talk during the preseason about
the newly formed EKeys 4 Cars Tour-Type Modified
division at Star. On Saturday the talk becomes reality
as more than 20 Modifieds are expected to take the green
flag for a 40-lap feature event.
David Pinkham and Josh Cantara from Maine, two-time
defending VMRS Champion Jon McKenendy and NASCAR Whelen
Southern Modified Tour standout Andy Seuss are just a
few of the expected contenders in this event.
Also on the card will be the Northeast Mini Stock Tour.
They opened their season last weekend at Beech Ridge as
well, with a 20-car field. The Roadrunners and Rookie
Stocks will round out the action, giving fans a taste of
many different forms of racing in one evening.
Due to the busy schedule on Saturday there will be an
early start time, with PASS heat races going first on
the schedule at 4:00 PM sharp. The 40-lap EKeys 4 Cars
Modified Feature is tentatively slated to begin around
5:45 PM, followed by an on-track PASS autograph session
and the PASS 150 at 7:06 PM.
If you are looking for a good early season racing fix,
this Saturday race program at Star is one that will be
hard to beat. Adult admission is just $20. Kids (10 and
under) are free with a paid adult. For more information
