CABRAL TOPS STRONG FIELD IN NEMA RETURN TO STAR

Epping, NH - After a five-year absence, the much-anticipated return of the Mighty NEMA Midgets to Star Speedway brought some exciting wheel-to-wheel action on the tight quarter-mile Saturday night, with Randy Cabral outrunning a strong field of entries to pick up the win.

A first-lap incident found nearly half the field in trouble after Paul Scally spun his mount in turn three, but most were able to make repairs and rejoin the field for the restart. Seth Carlson led the way in the early going, but Cabral put a quick move on him between three and four to take over the point before halfway.

It was all but over from there, with Cabral racing away to score the win by a comfortable margin.

The Allen’s Coffee Flavored Brandy Outlaw Late Models once again drew a strong field of entries for their 35-lap feature event, with rookie competitor Billy Ryder setting the pace for the first several laps before yielding to the high-flying Joe Squeglia, Jr.

Once out front, Squeglia was not to be denied, and he pulled away to lead the field to the stripe by several car lengths.  Mitch Wendell, Jimmy Renfrew, Gary Beauregard, Ryder, Shaun Waites, Rob MacRae, Barry Raymond, Steve “Pinball” Wilmot, and Sandy Lee were the rest of the top ten.

Chris Kingsley captured his first checkered flag of the 2012 season in the Woody’s Auto Strictly Stocks, holding off all comers to score the win.  Chris Augevich grabbed second, with Matt Kawejsza, Sammy Peabody, Steve Douphinette, Bret Culleton, Billy Clement, Jr., Russ Douphinette, Tony Kawejsza, and John Cashman the rest of the top ten.

After surviving a close call when he got tangled up with Lance Barthelemy while battling for the lead, young Jarrod Soucy went on to collect his third Roadrunner win of the season.  Ken McIlvaine posted runner-up, with Jason Plouffe, Steve Nichols, and Emil Maroun rounding out the top five.
