Epping, NH – Richard
Savary picked up his third feature win of the 2011
season in the E Keys 4 Cars Modifieds at Star Speedway
on Saturday night, moving closer to points leader Josh
Cantara with the victory.
George Sherman broke out
to the lead when flagman Mike Walker unfurled the green
to let them loose, but Savary quickly worked past on the
high side to take over the top spot. Mike Douglas, Jr.
followed Savary to the front, holding down the second
spot for the next several laps.
On lap 16, Mike Murphy
put the Ken Giles entry past Douglas into second, but
both driver were quickly under attack from three-time
winner Jon McKennedy, who was looking to make it win
number four in the Bob Wilcox machine.
McKennedy slipped past
Douglas and Murphy to claim second, but he couldn’t
complete his charge to the front, and had to settle for
runner-up honors at the finish. Savary and crew made
the trip to victory lane, with McKennedy and Murphy
taking home second and third.
Fourth spot went to
two-time 2011 winner George Baldwin, followed by
Sherman, Douglas, Cantara, Jeff Amaral, and Gary Grubisa,
with Sumner Scott rounding out the top ten in his first
start of the 2011 campaign.
The Rookie Stocks headed
into the night with the top four drivers in the point
standings separated by just ten points, making every
position count for the drivers involved. Bret Culleton
and Dean Wendell were tied atop the standings, with Bill
Fiske four points off the pace, and Chris Augevich just
five further back.
Augevich was the big
winner on Saturday, holding off a late-race challenge
from Keith “Slika” Ennis to collect his third win of the
season. Ennis continued to impress with a runner-up
effort, with Steve Dickey, Jr. rounding out the podium
in third.
Fourth spot went to Fiske,
with John Cashman, Connor McDougal, Wendell, Tom Hough,
and Eddie McCullough finishing in positions five through
ten.
Ricky Porter looked to be
well on his way to victory lane in the Roadrunner
feature event, but Anthony Nadeau made the pass with the
finish in sight to add to his already-impressive 2011
win total.
The win added to Nadeau’s
lead in the point standings, but with nearly three
months left in the season, it’s far from over. Porter
took second over second place point man Jack Victoria,
followed by Doug Dawkins, Loren Smith, Jr., George
Maroun, Myles Devits, Steve Nichols, and Ken McIlvaine.
Allan Rieser, Jr.
collected his first Star win of the season in the New
England V-6 Modified main event, holding off Anthony
Frissora, Eric Vilandre, Will Williams, and Louie Maher
to collect the winner’s trophy.
E.J. Flannigan grabbed his second win of the year in the
V-8 Enduro after a race-long three-way battle with Bob
Murphy and Dave McCarthy. McCarthy finished second,
with Murphy recovering from a spin to collect third. |
