EPPING, NH- With the summer season winding down, the
competition level at the Star Speedway is ramping up,
and this Saturday night, August 13 could prove to be a
very important night of racing action at the
quarter-mile Epping oval.
Two weeks ago, the EKeys 4 Cars Tour-Type Modifieds went
to a handicapping system to set the feature lineups, and
it has resulted in two of the most exciting races all
season at Star since then. You can expect more of the
same when they take the green on Saturday night.
Points leader Josh Cantara is still in search of his
first victory of 2011. The Maine driver now leads last
week's feature winner and former NASCAR WMT regular
Richard Savary by just 32 points. They will be
challenged by former VMRS race winner Jacob Dore, who
returns to the fold after a second place finish at Star
on July 30. Two-time race winner George Baldwin, VMRS
Champion Jon McKennedy, and Mike Douglas Jr., who is
also in search of his first victory, will be in the
field as well.
The "Outlaw" Late Models, led by the talented Mitch
Wendell return to Star on Saturday. This will be the
final tune-up for them before the, "Big John DiBurro
Memorial 59" on August 27 that will pay the race winner
$1,009. That race is being held to honor DiBurro, who
recently lost a battle with cancer. There will be a
"Meet and Greet" for the Outlaws this Saturday with race
fans, prior to this Saturday's first feature event of
the evening.
The most competitive weekly division at Star is the
Rookie Stocks. Four drivers are separated by just 26
points in the season standings, with positions changing
weekly. Chris Augevich went from fourth to first in the
standings with a good run this past Saturday. Bill Fiske,
Bret Culleton and Dean Wendell make up the rest of the
top four.
The Rookie Stock event this Saturday is sure to be a
good one, along with the Roadrunners, led by Jack
Victoria and Anthony Nadeau. The night will conclude
with a four-cylinder Enduro event.
In an effort to accommodate Modified fans attending the
race at New Hampshire Motor Speedway on Saturday
afternoon, Star has promised to start Saturday's EKeys 4
Cars 40-lap feature after 8:00 PM, allowing fans the
opportunity to arrive late and still see the headline
event.
As part of the night's activities on Saturday, two lucky
kids will win brand new bikes through a drawing. Kids
arriving at the track need to enter the drawing to be
eligible for the bikes, sponsored by Douglas Auto of
Manchester, N.H., and the Richard Savary 99 race team.
Racing begins at 6:06 PM on Saturday, with qualifying,
followed by four big feature events, tentatively slated
to begin around 7:30 PM. For more information log onto
the track web site at:

or the Star Speedway Facebook page. Admission is just
$12 for adults, $6 for students, and kids 10 and under
admitted free of charge. |
