Epping, NH - The ground-pounding
E Keys 4 Cars Modifieds were the
headline attraction at Star
Speedway on Saturday night, and
they didn’t disappoint the fans,
running a rough and tumble
40-lapper which was eventually
won by defending champ Josh
Cantara in the Anne and Goodwin
Hannaford entry.
Ageless veteran Rusty Ball
manned the point when the race
went green, holding on to the
top spot until second-generation
Star racer Mike Douglas, Jr.
made his way past on lap 10.
Jacob Dore moved in quickly to
challenge Douglas, but the two
tangled on lap 13 and were
knocked from contention.
Cantara, now a two-time winner, survived a close call
and moved to the lead for the
ensuing restart. It was all but
over from there, as Cantara led
the balance of the event to
collect his first checkered flag
of the 2012 season. Steve
Dickey, Jr. was next across the
stripe, with George Sherman
getting his first podium of the
year in the third spot.
One of the biggest fields of the
year was on hand for the running
of the Woody’s Auto Strictly
Stocks “Woody’s Furious 40”,
although an incident during
qualifying sent several teams
scrambling to make repairs in
time for the feature, and
feature winner Grant Aither home
with a badly bent racecar.
Fifth place starter “Slammin”
Sammy Peabody wasted little time
making his way to the lead, and
once he got there, he was not
planning on giving it up.
Multi-time feature winner Steve
Douphinette challenged him for
several laps to no avail before
he finally dropped off the pace,
and Peabody was gone from there.
Despite a car that wasn‘t
handling quite the way he would
have liked it, Peabody was never
seriously challenged over the
second half of the race, leading
the field under Mike Walker‘s
checkers to take down the big
win over Chris Augevich and Bill
Helliwell.
Shaun Waites, Jr. picked up the
win in the Kimball Auto Body
Roadrunners, with Jarrod Soucy
second and Ken McIlvaine third,
while T.J. Bleau won the Star 4
Modified feature.
Emerson Cayer scored the 50-lap
NEMST feature event win over
Star Speedway Roadrunner ace
Billy Osborne, who led several
laps before losing the top spot
to the eventual winner. John
Kelly, Mike Parker, Cris King,
Jeff Beaule, Loren Smith, Loren
Smith, Jr., Danny Field, and
Cory Centino were third through
tenth. |
