Epping, NH - Saturday night’s
big event at Star Speedway was
the John DiBurro Memorial 59 for
the Outlaw Late Models, the
biggest-paying, longest-distance
race of the 2012 campaign for
the Outlaws on the tight quarter
mile.
A strong field of entries
featuring many former winners
and track champions assembled
for the second annual “Big
John”, with Billy McCarthy
leading a 20-car field to green.
McCarty quickly established
himself of the man to beat,
setting the pace for the first
20 laps of the main event.
A backstretch scramble on lap 22
sent McCarty flying down pit
road and off the lead, with
Shaun Waites picking up the
point for the restart. Waites
held the lead for the next five
circuits, but he was overtaken
by Jimmy Renfrew, who
immediately began pulling away
from the field.
Former champion Ron Bolduc had
been off the radar up to this
point, patiently working his way
from the back after qualifying
troubles left him deep in the
field on the start. Sitting
fifth at the 40-lap mark, Bolduc
continued picking them off one
by one, and with ten to go, he
was up to second and reeling in
leader Renfrew.
Bolduc saw his opportunity on
lap 51, and ducked to the low
side coming off turn four,
moving to the lead as they
entered turn one. Bolduc led the
remaining laps to collect the
AutoMart-sponsored $999 winner’s
check, with Renfrew taking
runner-up, and Sandy Lee filling
out the podium in third.
Fourth spot went to Gary
Beauregard, followed by Chuck
Dehney, Lee Weldy, Mark
Parenteau, Steve Wilmot, and Joe
Squeglia, with 2011 race winner
Rob MacRae rounding out the top
ten finishers.
E Keys 4 Cars Modified action
saw another big field of entries
on hand, with 16 starters
answering the call for the
40-lap feature event. Sumner
Scott brought the field quickly
under caution when he made
contact with the third turn
barrier on the first lap, with
Mike Douglas leading the way on
the restart.
Douglas
quickly lost out to the
high-flying Russ Wood, Jr., who
ran the outside groove to take
away the top spot just a couple
of laps later. Wood maintained
the lead well past the halfway
mark, but Richard Savary was
closing in fast.
Savary dove to the inside as
they headed into turn three on
lap 27, and he came away with
the lead. Savary ran virtually
unchallenged the rest of the way
to score the win. Jacob Dore
gave it a shot as the laps wound
down, but he came up short and
had to settle for second at the
checkers.
Early leader Douglas scored
third place honors, with Jim
Boniface fourth and Steve
Dickey, Jr. fifth. Sixth spot
went to Wood, followed by
defending champ Josh Cantara,
George Sherman, Rusty Ball, and
Jodi Johnson.
Dylan Bilodeau moved out from
the pole to lead the first 18
laps of the Woody’s Auto
Strictly Stock feature event,
but contact caused him to spin
out of contention at that point.
Chris Kingsley picked up the
lead from there and went on to
capture his second checkered
flag of the 2012 season.
Steve Douphinette challenged for
the lead in the late laps, but
he eventually finished in
second, followed by John Cashman,
Chuck Dehney, Matt Kawejsza,
Chris Augevich, Rob DeAlmeida,
Bobby Bouchard, and Bret
Culleton.
The Kimball Auto Body
Roadrunners entertained the
crowd with their feature race,
where Seth Stickney and Billy
Osborne battled side-by-side for
the lead for the first ten laps.
Looking to the low side of the
two leaders, Shaun Waites made
his move down low on the
backstretch to take over the
race lead.
Waites went the distance from
there to post the win, with
Stickney coming out with a
runner-up finish for his
efforts. Third went to Osborne,
with Jarrod Soucy and Jason
Plouffe rounding out the top
five finishers. |
